Is glossy red lacquer slowly replacing red and white checkered tablecloth as the Italian stereotype? This is the third restaurant I have visited which uses shiny Diablo Rosso to personify its…Italiano. But that’s all the handsome, subtle interior of Prego’s uses. Located on the ground floor of the Media Rotana in Barsha Heights, this instantly comfortable Italian restaurant is split into two parts, a cosy gastro-bar (smoking), and a larger main dining area, complete with open kitchen. Unless you are a smoker the bar is not ideal at peak times. Off-peak, it is the better of the two.
Prego’s boasts an extensive menu covering all the classics, including traditional thin-crust pizza. The Herb Roasted Breast of Chicken was highly recommended so that’s what I had. It’s excellent, especially for someone (like me) who is trying to cut down on carbs. Try it. But DO NOT break off a big chunk of their glorious freshly baked bread to mop up the left-over gravy with – no, no, no.
Service is very friendly and hugely accommodating. Worth a visit.
Waste NOT. Want NOT.
