Wagamama is finally getting the recognition it so rightly deserves. This recently opened fifth branch is located right at the corner of the fountain entrance of Dubai Mall, placing it in the middle of some of Dubai’s best-known F&B franchises. I was lucky enough to visit the first, Bloomsbury outlet in London in the early 90’s when Alan Yau first surprised the world with the concept. I, therefore, have a deep loyalty to the brand. As do my kids, who have been dragged into Wagamama branches all over the world. Tables have since turned, they now take me…
I’m assuming the interior of this newest branch is an evolution of their Kaizen, or ‘continuous improvement’, philosophy. It takes Waga’s already trendy, minimalist interior a step further up (market) without adding any unnecessary bling.
Their menu has changed a little, yet it still offers all of what made Waga famous in the first place. Everyone in our group of four ordered ramen which, whilst not the most authentic in the world, is superb nonetheless. My favourite is the Chilli Ramen, which today comes with either chicken or tenderloin. I usually start with a portion of Edamame, Ebi Katsu and Gyoza; (I’m sorry Waga) all three of which were let downs on this occasion – something I pointed out to the supervisor. Order them, I’m sure this matter will be sorted by the time you read this. Waga is much, much more than ramen. Rather than being intimidated by stuff you don’t understand, ask one of the staff for help. And experiment.
Service is a Wagamama strongpoint. Staff members are young and fun. After all these years I still get a kick out of the incomprehensible scribblings they leave on my placemat, and the ridiculous “we’ll serve whichever dish is prepared first”, to which I always answer – no, please serve the starters first. Sometimes they listen. Kudos to RMAL Hospitality for finally putting the spotlight on Wagamama, which has so much more to offer than copycats Noodle House, to name but a few. So there you have it, Wagamama Dubai Mall – well worth a visit.
Waste NOT. Want NOT.
