Al Dimyati & Iskandaron is a small, modest Arabic restaurant in Karama which serves some of the BEST lamb chops on Planet Earth. There, I’ve said it, now someone prove me wrong.
Walk in and you’re like, oh dear, have I come to the right place; skinny legged, plastic chairs and fake wood tables, fluorescent tube lights, framed wall hangings with verses of the Holy Quran and a display fridge at the far end (filled with Canada Dry drinks no less) all combine to create an ambiance of…familiar, nostalgic homeliness for anyone from the Middle East. This could be the street corner restaurant from any of our hometowns.
The food at Al Dimyati & Iskandaron is amazing, nothing more so than the lamb chops I first mentioned. They’re unbelievable. Although everything else is also really, really good – order these first. And order LOTS of them. The Mezza they start with is…okay but not a patch on the grills. I found it interesting that Al Dimyati & Iskandaron does not serve any seafood whatsoever. Not that it matters. Just an observation.
Although nobody seemed to speak any English at Al Dimyati & Iskandaron the night my friends and I visited, our order was taken, and food brought to our table within a couple of blinks. We were looked after by a friendly young chap who really made our experience there all the more pleasurable.
I cannot remember the last time I walked out of a restaurant this happily stuffed. Irrespective of which part of Dubai you’re in, the lamb chops at Al Dimyati & Iskandaron are worth the drive out for.
Waste NOT. Want NOT.
