If there is one thing I hate more than ordering chicken or fish at a steakhouse, it’s ordering meat well done. So, it came as a double-whammy to me when I was asked to “share” a Chicken and Lamb Espetana (what are we lions to share our meat? well, actually I am a lion. I’m a Leo), and on top of that the waiter was told to make sure it was really well done. There should be a law against this.
This happened recently at the Butcher Shop & Grill on the far end of City Walk 1, not far from PF Chang and Paul. The Butcher Shop is an amazing South African franchise specialising in MEAT! And boy-O-boy do these boys from the bush know their meat. Except that, there’s not going to be much leftover from whatever cut of meat you order if you ask them to char it to a crisp. And yes, I am quite opinionated on this subject.
On this occasion, in addition to the Espetana, we also ordered a Striploin Steak and The Butcher Burger – all well done. Crazy enough, my guests were from a country which specialises in meat. Anyway, everyone was happy with their food (except me, which isn’t important…so long as the guests are happy). The burger is BIG and comes (like everything else) with two sides. Order both of the same with a more realistic doneness, medium or better yet, medium rare, and I assure you the meat will be amazing.
Service is friendly, accommodating and fast. If you are looking for an affordable place to have a really good steak, you have a choice of Texas Roadhouse, Outback and these boys from the bush, Butcher Shop & Grill
– all three are well worth a visit.
Waste NOT. Want NOT.
