Cabin is an unpretentious café cum restaurant in Barsha South. It embodies the true meaning of that overused phrase, hidden gem. The interior and even the little outdoor exterior has a very hipster look and vibe, both unintentional I am told. This is one of those places you will feel more comfortable coming to in slacks and slippers than in an evening dress and heels. Oh, and you can bring your dog along too.
Although the menu still seems to be in an evolutionary phase, the food is excellent; thanks in no small part to Chef Aaron Jones, one of the chefs from Michelin starred Saint Pierre restaurant in Singapore. The Cod I tried was cooked and seasoned perfectly. I highly recommend it. The Prawn Tacos were also good, although the soft shells tend to get soggy if you take your time eating them. The French Toast my daughter had was topped with a dollop of ice-cream…which I polished off for her. Yeah, the food at Cabin is like gourmet casual dining. I thought it was a nice touch that complementary bottles of lemon or cucumber infused water was served as part of the meal. It was unfortunate that I found out about this after I had ordered an expensive bottle of sparkling water.
Service is genuinely friendly, accommodating and fast. I’m assuming that, because one of the partners this business is an Emirati, locals (especially local youths) will be encouraged to visit. In fact, a group of young Emirati men ventured in just as we were leaving. What a brilliant success story that would be. Kudos to this Scottish-Emirati joint venture – well worth a detour.
Waste NOT. Want NOT.
