Hashi is an amazing little Asian tapas restaurant in Oud Metha. Located next door to Chili’s, opposite Lamcy Plaza, Hashi’s simple, modernist interior is more in tune with the trendsetting eateries in DIFC than Oud Metha’s mainly value for money propositions. Yet, for all its sex appeal, Hashi is surprisingly gentle on the wallet. At the heart of Hashi is the concept of sharing (…is caring). Forget one flavour, big plate, and instead think multiple flavours, small plates.
I visited Hashi with my pescatarian food buddy. Our order included Beer Battered Dover Sole, Rock Shrimp Tempura, Yaki Ramen Noodles, and Mushroom Dim Sum, all of which we thoroughly enjoyed.
If I had to choose a favourite, it would have to be the PFC’s Dynamite Shrimp-style, Rock Shrimp Tempura; the only difference being, here the shrimp is chopped into smaller, chopstick-friendly pieces.
For obvious reasons we were unable to try their Beef Bulgogi or the slow-cooked Beef Short Ribs, but I hear they’re amazing – something for next time.
Service is friendly and…um, getting there. One must remember, this is the Beta version of Hashi. Judging from how amazing everything already is, I cannot imagine them doing anything more than a little tweaking and fine tuning to get it all spot on. But I’m going to jump the gun and predict that Hashi will quickly establish itself as one of THE Asian restaurants of choice in the Oud Metha area. It’s hard to believe this gem in the making is part of the same group which gave us mediocrities like Shanghai Station. Perhaps the owners will use some Hashi Pixie dust for their other restaurants as well.
Waste NOT. Want NOT.
