Karachi Darbar has reopened its Al Muteena branch as a 2.0, a total revamp and relaunch of the super successful, affordable Pakistani franchise originally established in 1973. Hey, hold on, the UAE wasn’t even around then…hmm. It took a while, but you just have to see this place – it’s so different from the rough, Pathan-masculine image most KD outlets have had throughout the years. In addition to being all fancy and clean, it’s also very obviously family focused – a complete floor is dedicated to ‘family’.
The food has improved too. I found it less oily. Thankfully, it’s no less amazing. I had already eaten lunch when I noticed the “Now Open” sign, and I just had to go in (what can I say? I’m weak). It’s their Mutton Peshawari I can’t resist. It’s simply divine. Eaten with either rice or bread, it needs nothing else; no dal, no sabzi, nothing.
Full as I was, I ate an entire portion (once you start, you just can’t stop) with a little rice, and then ordered a second to take home (with the remaining rice). A couple of days ago I wrote about the Chicken Karahi of Pak Al Safa not far from this KD’s. You have to try KD’s Chicken Kadai dishes – OMG!
Service has improved. I found all the staff in bright, clean new uniforms, and I swear one of them actually smiled at me (I think it was a smile). There’s like a juice counter on the right as you enter (if this were a licensed restaurant, it would be the bar), and the guy behind the counter, who would have been the bartender, had this cool-dude hat on, and I was thinking OMG, is this really the Karachi Darbar. It is. This is the new, improved, sweet-smelling, clean, hygienic, well-mannered Karachi Darbar 2.0. Yeah!
Waste NOT. Want NOT.
