Mughaliya Darbar is an Indian restaurant in Cluster H of JLT which, among other things, serves one of the best Hyderabadi Biryanis available in Dubai. Like sister concern, Tayeb Kitchen in Al Khabaisi, its interior is modest, clean and comfortable.
The food in general, not just the Biryani, is very good. My food buddy, Ashwani, and I were on a rice-free day when we last visited, and kept our order to curry and roti – still amazing.
But our experience was spoilt by service which was nightmarishly slow. Yanni, it took over 45-minutes for our food to be brought from kitchen to table. The apologetic restaurant supervisor explain that this was due to a staff problem – duh! I took issue with the way the restaurant handled the problem; no communication, no munchies, nothing but lame excuses. Baba, bring out a basket of papad, some salad maybe, and everyone is happy till the mains arrive. But we were kept waiting with nothing more than a bottle of water, and as a consequence, a restaurant which should receive a 3.5 for the quality of its excellent food, will now receive a 2.5 for the quality of its lousy service. That said, I still think it’s worth a visit.
