The most unique and interesting thing about the Premier Inn’s Mr. Toad’s Pub & Kitchen is its…name. Otherwise it’s just another modern interpretation of a British pub, be it a decent, constantly multiplying one (I think there are now four branches in Dubai).
The pub opens from one end into what looks like a back-yard, outdoor seating area which is ideal at this time of year, and from the other end into the Premier Inn’s all day dining restaurant…which is where I served myself lunch from.
I originally came to try their Haddock & Chips but found the lunch buffet offer too tempting. It was a decision I would have regretted had it not been for the superb Beef Stroganoff, one of the best I have had in recent years. The rest of the buffet was as plain Jane as they get. Service was more of a miss than a hit, lethargic and unengaging; perhaps they’re just not morning people.
It’s hard judging a pub by a lunch time visit…except if you go to Fibber Magee’s, or McGettigan’s, or the BBC, or Long’s Bar…yeah, except those and then some. Perhaps it’s that Mr. T’s is still new. That said, for the good folks who live in and around the DIP area, it must seem God sent. For the rest of us, if in the DIP area, it’s certainly worth a visit. But if you’re considering driving out (from wherever), I would consider different options.
