Happy days are here again! Delhi Darbar has opened a branch (a real big one) in Barsha-1 and I just couldn’t resist the temptation to take it for a test drive. I have a litmus test for Delhi Darbar; basically, if the Dabba Gosht, Daal Makhani and Rumali Roti works, everything will work…
This new Barsha branch is probably the biggest of the lot. It’s certainly bigger than the original in Karama, Satwa, and the funky, express one in JLT. Located conveniently behind Mall of the Emirates, it’s easy to find and even offers free parking for DINNER diners. But the BEST NEWS is that this Delhi Darbar delivers to the entire Dubai Land area; that’s Arabian Ranches, Motor City, Victory Heights, etc. Yippee!
This is obviously a must win branch for DD and it’s evident they’ve pulled out all the stops, drafting in the best of their managers and wait staff from their other branches for the launch of Barsha. I was greeted with the fanfare of a regular and pampered and fussed over as a VIP, with my waiter Faisal coming to my table regularly to check if I needed anything; another Rumali? Some juice? A lassi perhaps? And at the end of my meal…no dessert? Then a masala chai for sure. Come on, a casual dining restaurant with this level of service – wonderful.
And so to my litmus test.
A complementary papad along with small bowls of raita, pickle and lime quarters are brought to the table to keep you busy while your food is being prepared. I love the raita at DD and consider it as possibly the best I have had anywhere. I always end up asking for more and the boys at DD, generous as they are, always oblige. I’ve not yet asked for a third helping…hmm.
My Dubba Gosht and Daal Makhani, both served in classic copper serving pots, and two steaming Rumali Rotis arrived within fifteen minutes of my ordering them. And I immediately dug in with a desperate appetite, fuelled more from lust than hunger. I think Faisal got a fright and actually took a step back. He must have thought I hadn’t eaten in days. Little did he know that I am a Delhi Darbar Dubba Gosht junkie and what he had just placed in-front of me was nothing less than a much needed fix. The Dabba was excellent. The Daal was excellent. The Rotis were too. And I am as high as a kite…
Delhi Darbar is without doubt one of the best casual dining Indian restaurant chains in Dubai and, as is plainly obvious, is one of my all time favourites. If you have not yet been (what planet have you been living on, man?) I strongly recommend you go…immediately. Try the Dubba Gosht and Daal Makhani for sure but DD has so much more to offer, not least one of the best Butter Chickens in Dubai as well as a daily menu which is truly amazing.
Waste NOT. Want NOT.
