My 20-year old nephew recommended Teddy’s in Shibuya. He said they make possibility the best burgers in Tokyo. Well, I’m here from one of the burger capitals of the world, Dubai, and while Teddy’s does make a very decent burger, it’s not nearly as good as some of the burger joints we have back home. That’s not to say Teddy’s burgers are bad – they’re actually quite good. And they serve beer…which very few of our burger joint in Dubai do, so…hmm, one up for the Hawaiian-Japanese.
I tried (but could not finish) the Teriyaki burger. Whilst it had a juicy, chunky patty I felt it had a distinct truffles after taste which I like no more than one or two bites of, any more and I start getting nauseous (some food blogger I am). My niece and nephew ordered the cheese burgers and… wow! polished them off while I was still looking under the hood of mine.
Service was prompt but in no way friendly; the guy who took our order spoke NOT a single word of English. This was the first burger I had in Japan so I can’t compare it with anything. By Dubai standards where Shake Shack sets the standard for the mid-range, I’d put Teddy’s at a 3.5 (out of 5)…maybe even a 4 because…um, they serve beer.
